In our recent community gathering, we asked volunteers in the MyDispense USA community to share how they are using MyDispense at their institution. Our panelists were asked to answer the following questions:
- What problem(s) were you seeking to solve in your course or at your institution?
- How did you use MyDispense in an innovative way to solve this problem?
- What went well along the way?
- What lessons did you learn along the way?
This is Part 1 in our series about the insights and innovations shared during our October community meeting. Join us as we continue to explore how our peers have used MyDispense.
Laura Knockel, PharmD, BCACP
Clinical Assistant Professor
University of Iowa College of Pharmacy
Dr. Laura Knockel implemented the use of MyDispense in the P2 and P3 Skills Lab. The goal was to augment the existing course structure by allowing students additional practice in a simulated environment.
Traditionally, students might be randomly selected for live counseling sessions with P4 peers, gaining valuable real-time feedback, or they might participate in recorded counseling sessions. While recorded sessions provided a measure of practice, feedback—if given—was often delayed, sometimes by a week.
By integrating MyDispense cases at the beginning of the course, Dr. Knockel aimed to maximize educational resources and provide immediate, actionable feedback to students. Watch the video to learn more.
Jacqueise Unonu, PharmD
Clinical Assistant Professor
Career and Professional Development Coordinator
Howard University College of Pharmacy
Dr. Jacqueise Unonu integrated MyDispense into the P2 Integrated Therapeutics laboratory experience. Dr. Unonu wanted to help student bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application by simulating real-life patient interactions. The use of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) are utilized in the course, however, they are not continuously available throughout the semester. MyDispense fills that gap, offering continuous, case-based learning that mimics real-world scenarios pharmacists encounter. Watch the video for more.
