Two members of the USA Community published an article in the February 2025 issue of Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning titled “Exploring community pharmacy work experience impact on errors and omissions performance and MyDispense perceptions.”

The case report explores whether previous pharmacy work experience impacts performance on errors and omissions (E&O) activities in the skills lab setting and whether MyDispense can be used as a tool to level-set students prior to experiential rotations. Course faculty wanted to determine whether there was a performance gap in students’ ability to identify errors and omissions in medication prescriptions based on their previous work experience. If a gap existed, would using MyDispense help?
At this institution, students are introduced to MyDispense in the P1 fall semester to develop order-entry skills. In the following semester, students used MyDispense validation exercises to practice identifying potential errors and omissions.
When evaluating student performance on the MyDispense E&O activities, there was a slight, non-significant positive correlation between the amount of previous community pharmacy work experience and average performance across all five E&O activities. The correlation between previous experience and performance on individual E&O activities was strongest for the first activity. The majority of students felt that having previous experience was somewhat or very helpful in completing the E&O activities.
Congratulations to Rashi and Jenn on the publication, and thank you for contributing to the growing body of knowledge surrounding MyDispense. Click the link above to learn more.
