A recent article published in Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning earlier this year highlights a study involving authors from our MyDispense USA Community.

The study compared the effectiveness of a live, active-learning laboratory versus an asynchronous session in a crossover teaching design. In the live learning activity, students rotated through six stations, each involving two patient cases per station. The asynchronous activity, developed in collaboration with five institutions, featured five patient case scenarios completed in MyDispense, with students uploading videos of themselves counseling on a recommended product for the final patient case.

Both methods significantly improved students’ knowledge and confidence. However, 85% of students preferred the in-person format for its interactive and collaborative environment. Despite this preference, virtual simulations remain a valuable alternative, especially when resources like facilitators and budgets are limited.
